AMD unveiled Helios, a rack-scale system designed for AI data center workloads. Unlike standalone GPUs, Helios is a complete system — interconnect, cooling, management — competing directly with Nvidia's DGX.
AMD has been gaining server CPU market share (EPYC) but never broke into the AI training market dominated by Nvidia GPUs. With Helios, it attacks the problem head-on: selling the integrated system rather than just the chip.
Helios uses the CDNA 4 architecture and promises competitive performance with Nvidia's B200 on inference workloads. The real story isn't the specs — it's the message: AMD is transitioning from a chip manufacturer to a complete AI systems provider. The open question is whether the software ecosystem (ROCm vs CUDA) can keep up.
