Facebook launched a dedicated Marketplace app, separating the buying/selling experience from the main social feed. It includes free seller verification — a trust badge after identity and history validation.
Marketplace has always been an odd product: massively used but buried inside a social app many want to leave. Spinning it off into its own app is an obvious move Facebook took years to make. Free seller verification attacks Marketplace's biggest problem: scams and distrust.
The real signal is that Facebook is willing to cannibalize its own feed to create viable independent products. As the company repositions as "Meta" and the main feed loses relevance among younger users, spinning off what works (Marketplace, Groups) makes more sense than forcing everyone back into the old Facebook.
